How can ammeter and voltmeter are connected in acircuit? why ?

  • The ammeters has low resistance so that when it is connected in series with any circuit,it does not change the current.

  • The voltmeters has a high resistance and it is so designed that when connected in parallel to the circuit for measuring voltages it does not take appreciable current.

Why BJT is called current controlled device and FET is called voltage controlled device ?

BJT is a current controlled device because input current controls output current.

FET is voltage controlled device because input voltage (Vgs) controls drain current (Id).

Match the following (Gate EE Question:)

(a) no load and blocked rotor test (P) transformer
(b) sumpners test                          (Q) induction machine
(c) swinberns test                          (R) synchronous m/c
(d) slip test                                     (S) DC m/c

1) a-Q, b-S, c-P, d-Q

2) a-Q, b-P, c-S, d-R

3)a-S, b-R, c-P, d-Q

Answer:  option 2) a-Q, b-P, c-S, d-R

Why less loss occurs when we use DC supply than AC supply?

  • Since the frequency DC of supply is zero, capacitance and inductance does not exists.

  • Due to the absence of skin effect, the resistance of DC systems is low as compared to ac systems

  • Rac = 1.25 to 1.75*Rdc, so less power loss in DC system than AC system.
